General Election – Tuesday, November 5, 2013.

Welcome to Action Newburgh

The people of Newburgh rely too much on elected officials. Yes, we must elect good people, but that is not enough. We must help them afterward to ensure they address the challenging issues confronting the City. Each of us must share responsibility for our city's revival.

Action Newburgh is working with others in each Ward to sponsor forums where candidates answer your questions and present their views of issues and approaches to address these issues. Please contact us if you can assist with this. We need a suitable location in each Ward to hold a forum.

Action Newburgh has identified five central issues:

Real progress on these five issues will attract new business and residents, create new jobs, and lower taxes.  Each citizen is urged to ask candidates for the City Council and the Orange County Legislature to address these issues in depth, to consider candidate positions carefully when voting, and to follow up after the election to insure their expectations are met.

  • SAFETY - effective, comprehensive, equitable, public safety structure.
  • STABLE NEIGHBORHOODS - neighborhoods in which citizens are engaged in their community and government is engaged in working with them.
  • CODE COMPLIANCE - consistent, fair and sensible codes for all city activities and consistent, fair and sensible enforcement of those codes.
  • YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES - many accessible school and community sponsored activities in sports, music, art, job skills and citizenship skills.
  • COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT - public input made easier and incorporated in civic action.

Action Newburgh will work hard during the coming election campaigns and use this web site and other public venues to provide information and focus for examination of candidates and issues. We will work even harder after this election to aid the City Council in making progress. Join us!
